Relentlessly awful.. The Nut Job is a delightfully goofy slapstick cartoon with a surprisingly dark heart.. Banks takes a nice premise and does absolutely nothing original with it, instead burdening a plot derived from too many James Bond movies with cheap special effects and flat jokes.. When the story gets stale, the movie inserts a "nuts" pun or, worse, resorts to a gas or burp joke. It doesn't work the first time, nor the fifth..
